Year 6 Trip to Malham
The children of Class 6 had a wonderful time on our trip to Eden Camp on Thursday 10th November. We were able to deepen our Classroom learning through visiting what once was a British Prisoner of War Camp. The children found out about the dangers of Nazism and how Hitler turned people against the Jews, as well as finding out about life in the Blitz and the role of women.
Great Oaks residential trip to Kingswood Peak Venture Monday 17th to Wednesday 19th of October
We had a great time on our recent residential trip, all the children rose to the challenge and got involved with every aspect of the learning Kingswood offered them. They took care of each other and supported one another, encouraging and respecting the personal challenges being faced. We had a group focus on problem solving and team building, working throughout the visit to develop these skills collectively and individually. We climbed, over came high rope challenges, worked strategically in games and group tasks ,built and paddled our own rafts, and went on the high zip wire. In the dorms we developed on our personal organisation, self care, co-operation and empathy.
All the leaders saw a huge development in all the pupils during the course of the visit and we are very proud of their achievements. It doesn't stop there! The children have used their experience to identify personal development targets which they can work on during the next term with the support of their friends and family.
A huge thank you to all the parents for supporting the trip and sharing your wonderful young people with us and to Steve and Jamie who came with us and were group leaders.
We all have very happy memories to cherish and closer bonds to hold us together through our year 6 journey.
Well done Great Oaks!
